On December 8, 1984, Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil and Hanoi Rocks’ drummer, Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley, went for a beer run after partying all day at Neil’s oceanfront condo. Neil made a high-speed turn onto The Esplanade from Sapphire Street and lost control of his sports car, crashing head-on into a Volkswagen. Dingley was killed instantly and Lisa Hogan, an 18 year old passenger in the Volkswagen, was critically injured and spent several weeks in a coma. The driver of the Volkswagen was also injured. Neil wasn’t injured and pleaded guilty to manslaughter and drunken driving. He received only 20 days in jail and agreed to pay $2.5 million in restitution to the victims.
