On October 4, 1970 at the age of 27, Janis Joplin died in room #105 of the Landmark Motor Hotel on Franklin Ave in Los Angeles. She was found dead on the floor beside the bed. The official cause of death was an overdose of heroin, possibly mixed with alcohol.   Joplin was supposed to be at a recording session that day at Sunset Sound Recorders, when she failed to show up, her road manager, John Cooke, went to the Landmark Hotel to check on her and discovered her body. The hotel is now called the Highland Gardens Hotel.
