Made popular by being mentioned in the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” the Chelsea Drugstore opened in 1968. More than just a typical drugstore, the three story Chelsea Drugstore also had a bar, newsstands and even record albums.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want” was recorded on November 16 & 17, 1968 at Olympic Studios in London. The song has often been interpreted as a reflection of the closing of the 1960’s.

A man named Jimmy Hutmaker of Excelsior, Minnesota has claimed to be the “Mr. Jimmy” mentioned in the song, through a chance meeting with Mick Jagger at a drugstore in Excelsior, MN. According to Hutmaker, Jagger had requested a cherry flavored Coke but the drugstore was out andj Hutmaker uttered, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” This story has never been confirmed by Jagger.
