This epic 9-minute video by Guns N’ Roses was shot at several locations around the Los Angeles, CA area and New Mexico. It is considered to be one of the most expensive videos ever made with some estimates at $1.5 million to make. The video featured actress, Stephanie Seymour, who was Axl’s girlfriend at the time. The band’s live performance clips were shot at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The church scenes were shot at the St. Brendan Catholic Church, also in Los Angeles. For the wedding reception scenes, the Villa del Sol d’Oro in Sierra Madre, CA was used (a popular place that you too can rent out for your wedding or party). For the outside shots of Slash playing in the middle of the desert prairie in front of a little white church, the crew used a location in New Mexico. The church was the same church used in the 1985 movie Silverado.
Unofficially, the videos for “November Rain,” “Don’t Cry” and “Estranged” form a trilogy. “November Rain” was based on the short story “Without You” by Del James, a friend of Axl Rose. The song is the longest song ever to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and was the #1 MTV video for 1992.
