While most people are familiar with Elvis’s Graceland home, his first major home purchase after becoming a star was a four-bedroom, ranch style house at 1034 Audubon Drive. Elvis paid $40,000 for the house with royalties earned from “Heartbreak Hotel.” It soon became apparent that the home provided little privacy from his growing legion of fans who frequently started stopping by and camping out on the front lawn. Thirteen months later, Presley purchased the much more private Graceland for $100,000.
